Between the Moon and Shakespeare
Last week
we walked on the beach
just after the equinox
the tide so high
we had to wade thigh deep
to reach the peninsular
I drew a huge picture in the sand
of Van Gogh’s Starry Night
I waved to the planes
as they took off from the airport
and wished them a safe journey,
and a Sunday morning
as happy as mine
I cooked beautiful
spicy couscous
with yellow and green zucchini
sweet red peppers, wild mint
fresh lemon juice
and chilli...always chilli
I dressed all in pink
and made a bouquet of paper flowers
with photo’s of my friends for faces
I watched Othello smother Desdemona
(twice)
and listened to King Lear
rage against the storm
and break down in tears of frustration
while the fool looked on
I fell in love with a movie
and watched it 5 times
and I played the soundtrack
over and over
in my car
I thought about running away
to Dublin
and somewhere
between the full moon
and Shakespeare
we said
goodbye
