Cold Hearted

frost rimed leaves
crunch
underfoot
while
below
hardened earth
tiny pale shoots
bide their time
in dark
stiffly blanketed
beds

unfooled by
blinding light
of tepid sun
they know
the
thaw
is not yet
imminent

as icy breath
pushes down
past
brittle fragments
nature
the sorceress
in her
canny wisdom
echoes
my plight

as together
we dwell

all senses
frozen

in
this
heart
of
winter
